Solution Summary

The best way to do this is using the live video input capability of display director.

You can use any HDMI source such as Apple TV or another laptop.

Just pull up the video you want to stream on your laptop then go to full screen.

To be clear this is not the display director laptop you use to control the screen, that would get confusing.

Physical Setup

To put your laptop screen on the video screen, first connect the HDMI output of the laptop or HDMI source to the HDMI input on the video client capture card.

It looks like this on the back of the client.

Then we’ll need to set the live video input to HDMI on the client. If you want help Service can TeamViewer in and walk you through this.

Display Director Setup

There should be a shortcut on the Director laptop called VNC Video Client, then you click the button called video capture setup in the lower right hand corner.

Now click EXIT on the client and it will restart with the new setting.

Now when you click the GO LIVE button, or hit F1 with director in the live mode, it will put your HDMI input scaled perfectly to the video screen.

Conclusion

We have a lot of customers that use this feature to put anything from a PC screen onto the video display such as power point, Xbox screen, iPhone screen, etc.

If you already have a video switcher with cameras and other live video equipment and you are going to do this often, we recommend that you buy an HDMI to HD-SDI adapter so that you don’t have to switch your input constantly back and forth between HD-SDI and HDMI. They’re only $37 on Amazon and it’ll save a lot of headache.

They also strip the HDCP information allowing you to play DVD’s from a blueray player if that’s something you want to do.
