If your W6 (MPC-6) controller is not working properly, follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

Quick Check

Before troubleshooting, verify the following:

  • Scoreboard power is ON
  • Controller power supply is connected
  • Coax cable is securely connected
  • Correct overlay is installed
  • Correct model code is entered

Issue: Scoreboard Not Responding

Symptoms:

  • Scoreboard is ON
  • Controller inputs do not affect scoreboard

Possible Causes:

  • No communication via coax cable
  • Incorrect model code entered

Resolution:

  1. Check coax (BNC) cable connection at controller and scoreboard
  2. Restart controller
  3. Re-enter correct model code
  4. Confirm correct overlay is installed

Note: The model code configures the controller for the specific scoreboard and sport 

Issue: Controller Not Controlling Scoreboard

Symptoms:

  • Controller powers on
  • Buttons respond, but scoreboard does not change

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect model code
  • Wrong overlay installed

Resolution:

  1. Verify overlay matches sport and scoreboard
  2. Restart controller
  3. Enter correct 3-digit model code
  4. Wait for system to display ready/time screen

Note: The overlay and model code must match the scoreboard setup 

Issue: Incorrect Score, Time, or Game Data

Symptoms:

  • Wrong score displayed
  • Time incorrect
  • Period or fouls not tracking correctly

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect model code
  • Settings not configured
  • Data entry error

Resolution:

  1. Press SET + function key to correct values
  2. Verify period, time, and score settings
  3. Re-enter correct model code if needed
  4. Restart controller to reset configuration

Issue: Time Will Not Start or Stop

Symptoms:

  • Clock does not respond to TIME ON/OFF

Possible Causes:

  • Handheld time switch connected
  • Time not set

Resolution:

  • Use handheld switch to control time (if connected)
  • Disconnect handheld switch to use keypad
  • Set game time before starting

Note: Time keys are disabled when handheld switch is connected 

Issue: Controller Not Powering On

Symptoms:

  • No display on controller

Possible Causes:

  • Power supply issue
  • Faulty outlet

Resolution:

  • Verify 9V power supply is connected
  • Try a different outlet
  • Inspect power cord for damage

Note: MPC-6 uses a 9V DC power supply 

Issue: Scoreboard Turns On But Shows Wrong Setup

Symptoms:

  • Wrong sport or layout
  • Missing features (fouls, player stats, etc.)

Possible Causes:

  • Wrong model code
  • Wrong overlay

Resolution:

  1. Power cycle controller
  2. Install correct overlay
  3. Enter correct model code
  4. Confirm scoreboard initializes properly

Issue: Foul Panels or Player Features Not Working

Symptoms:

  • Player fouls not displaying
  • Foul panels inactive

Possible Causes:

  • Foul panels not enabled in options
  • Player numbers not assigned

Resolution:

  1. Press SET → OPTIONS
  2. Enable foul panels
  3. Enter player numbers for all positions
  4. Complete setup before starting game

Note: Player numbers must be assigned to panel positions before use 

Issue: Cannot Save Bookmark

Symptoms:

  • Bookmark will not save

Possible Causes:

  • Timer is running

Resolution:

  • Stop the timer
  • Save bookmark again

Note: Bookmarks cannot be saved while a timer is running 

Issue: Wrong Team or Player Data Displayed

Symptoms:

  • Data shows for wrong team
  • Player scan shows incorrect roster

Possible Causes:

  • Wrong team is active

Resolution:

  • Press HOME or GUEST player/select keys
  • Confirm correct team is active before changes

Best Practices

  • Always install correct overlay before startup
  • Always enter correct model code for each game
  • Check cable connections before events
  • Test controller and scoreboard prior to use
  • Use bookmarks for faster setup
