W7 Scoreboard Not Responding

Overview

If your W7 (MPCW-7) controller powers on normally but your scoreboard does not respond to button presses, follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

This article covers:

  • Scoreboard not responding
  • Controller appears to be working normally
  • No communication between the controller and the scoreboard

Quick Check

Before troubleshooting, verify the following:

  • The W7 controller is powered on.
  • The scoreboard has power.
  • The correct sport is selected.
  • The correct profile is loaded.
  • If using a wireless system, the receiver has power.

If all items above have been verified, continue below.

Issue: Scoreboard Not Responding

Symptoms

  • The W7 controller powers on normally.
  • The scoreboard does not respond to button presses.
  • The game clock will not start.
  • Scores do not change.
  • The scoreboard appears powered but does not react to controller commands.

Most Common Causes

  1. Incorrect profile loaded.
  2. Wrong scoreboard model selected in the profile.
  3. Wireless receiver is not linked to the controller.
  4. Wireless receiver has no power.
  5. Controller is communicating with the wrong receiver.
  6. Communication failure between the controller and the scoreboard.
Tip: On the W7 controller, go to OPTIONS > Wireless > Link Receiver. The correct receiver will show an asterisk (*) next to its name when it is linked. Ensure the intended scoreboard's receiver is selected and linked.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 – Verify the Correct Profile

Confirm the correct profile is loaded on the W7 controller.

If the wrong profile is loaded:

  • Load the correct profile.
  • Test the scoreboard by starting the clock or changing the score.

If the scoreboard responds, the issue has been resolved.

Step 2 – Verify the Scoreboard Model

Open the active profile and verify the selected scoreboard model matches the installed Nevco scoreboard.

If necessary:

  • Select the correct scoreboard model.
  • Save the profile.
  • Test the scoreboard again.

Step 3 – Verify Wireless Communication (Wireless Systems Only)

If your system uses a wireless receiver:

  • Confirm the receiver has power.
  • Verify the receiver is linked to the active profile.
  • Confirm the controller is communicating with the correct receiver.

If any changes are made, test the scoreboard again.

Step 4 – Restart the Controller

Turn the W7 controller OFF.

Wait approximately 10 seconds.

Turn the controller back ON.

Load the correct profile and test the scoreboard again.

Step 5 – Verify Scoreboard Power

If the controller appears to be communicating correctly but the scoreboard still does not respond:

  • Verify the scoreboard has incoming power.
  • Verify the breaker or disconnect supplying the scoreboard is ON.

If the breaker has tripped, reset it one time only.

If it immediately trips again, discontinue troubleshooting and continue with additional technical support.

Verify the Repair

Confirm the following functions operate correctly:

  • Game clock starts and stops.
  • Home score updates correctly.
  • Guest score updates correctly.
  • Period/Inning changes correctly.
  • Horn operates correctly (if applicable).

If all functions operate normally, the issue has been resolved.
