Issue: Wrong Scoreboard Model Selected

Symptoms

  • The controller connects normally.
  • Some buttons do not work.
  • Certain scoreboard functions are unavailable.
  • Digits update incorrectly.
  • The scoreboard does not match the controller functions.
  • The issue began after changing sports or configuring a new controller.

Most Common Causes

  1. Incorrect scoreboard model selected.
  2. Wrong sport selected.
  3. Controller configured for a different scoreboard.
  4. Scoreboard configuration was recently changed.
  5. Incorrect controller setup.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 – Verify the Selected Sport

Confirm the controller is operating the correct sport.

Using the wrong sport may change available functions and button assignments.

If necessary:

  • Select the correct sport.
  • Test the scoreboard again.

Step 2 – Verify or Change the Scoreboard Model

The X2 controller must be set to the correct scoreboard model type. If the wrong model is selected, the controller may connect but certain buttons or scoreboard functions may not work correctly.

To check or change the scoreboard model:

  1. Press OPTIONS on the X2 controller.
  2. Use the + / - keys to scroll through the available options.
  3. Locate Select Scoreboard Model Type.
  4. Press the select/confirm key to open the model selection.
  5. Use the + / - keys to scroll until the correct scoreboard model type is displayed.
  6. Select the correct model.
  7. Exit back to the main screen.
  8. Test the scoreboard.

After changing the model, verify:

  • Home score updates correctly.
  • Guest score updates correctly.
  • Game clock starts and stops.
  • Horn works, if applicable.
  • The correct scoreboard functions are available.

Tech Tip: If the X2 connects but the scoreboard acts incorrectly, check the scoreboard model before assuming there is a communication or hardware issue.

Step 3 – Test Scoreboard Functions

Verify the following functions operate correctly:

  • Home score
  • Guest score
  • Game clock
  • Period/Inning
  • Horn (if applicable)

If any functions do not operate as expected, continue to the next step.

Step 4 – Verify Controller Configuration

If the controller was recently programmed or replaced, verify all configuration settings match the installed scoreboard.

Correct any configuration differences and test again.

Verify the Repair

Confirm the following:

  • All controller buttons perform the expected function.
  • The correct scoreboard responds.
  • Scores update correctly.
  • Clock operates normally.
  • The correct sport is displayed.
  • All available scoreboard features operate correctly.

If all functions operate normally, the issue has been resolved.

What Changed?

The controller was configured for the wrong scoreboard model. After selecting the correct model, the controller and scoreboard functions matched correctly and normal operation was restored.

Tech Tip

If the controller connects successfully but the scoreboard behaves unexpectedly, verify the selected scoreboard model before replacing hardware. An incorrect model can cause missing functions, incorrect button assignments, and unexpected scoreboard behavior even though communication is working normally.
