Issue: Shot Clock Not Responding

Symptoms

  • Main scoreboard functions normally.
  • Shot clock remains blank.
  • Shot clock will not start or reset.
  • Shot clock does not respond to controller commands.
  • Only the shot clock is affected.

Most Common Causes

  1. Shot clock has no power.
  2. Incorrect scoreboard model selected.
  3. Incorrect sport selected.
  4. Communication problem between the controller and the shot clock.
  5. Loose or damaged communication cable.
  6. Shot clock hardware failure.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 – Verify the Correct Sport

Confirm the controller is set for the correct sport.

Some sports do not enable shot clock functions.

If necessary:

  • Select the correct sport.
  • Test the shot clock again.

Step 2 – Verify the Scoreboard Model

Press OPTIONS.

Scroll to Select Scoreboard Model Type.

Verify the selected model supports the installed shot clock.

If necessary:

  • Select the correct scoreboard model.
  • Return to the main screen.
  • Test the shot clock.

Step 3 – Verify Shot Clock Power

Confirm the shot clock display has power.

If the display is completely blank:

  • Verify incoming power.
  • Verify the breaker supplying the shot clock is ON.
  • Restore power if necessary.

Step 4 – Verify Communication

If the shot clock has power but does not respond:

  • Inspect communication cables between the scoreboard and shot clock.
  • If using wireless communication, verify the receiver has power and is connected.
  • Confirm all connectors are securely attached.

Step 5 – Test Shot Clock Functions

Verify the following functions:

  • Start
  • Stop
  • Reset
  • Display updates correctly

If the shot clock responds normally, the issue has been resolved.

Verify the Repair

Confirm:

  • Shot clock display is illuminated.
  • Start and Stop functions operate correctly.
  • Reset functions correctly.
  • Main scoreboard and shot clock operate together.
  • No communication errors remain.

If all functions operate normally, the issue has been resolved.

What Changed?

The shot clock was unable to receive or process controller commands. After restoring power, correcting the controller configuration, or re-establishing communication, the shot clock resumed normal operation.
